We have more than 20 years experience in organising and guiding treks in the hills of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. We are a TAT registered tour company licensed to organise tours and trekking throughout the whole of Thailand. All our treks are led by TAT licensed guides and run according to TAT regulations (which are): - All treks have to be registered at the Tourist Police office before departure (that is why we ask for a photocopy of your passport). This is in order for them to check that the route is safe, the guide is licensed and to have a record of people participating in the trip. - we insure trekkers in case of accidents for a sum of up to 100,000Bt/person (injury) and 200,000Bt/person (loss of life). This is in accordance with TAT regulations . This season we have made a special effort to include extra itineraries so that we cover all the popular areas. As always, our one day treks around Chiang Mai, are very popular and we have added some extra itineraries so there's something for everyone. Please note all our treks are private trips. "Private" meaning that if you book as a group of two you will trek as a group of two. If you book as a group of six you will trek as a group of six. This enables us to guarantee itineraries and departure dates. There is no risk of getting to Chiang Mai to find the trip has been cancelled because there are not enough people to form a group (as happens with the larger group treks). Day 1 Drive south from Chiang Mai for about 2 hrs, to the summit of Doi Inthanon (the highest mountain of Thailand). We visit the twin chedi monuments as well as the summit of the mountain. Then we drive downhill a short way and visit the Royal Project for agriculture. We take a packed lunch to have at the Vachiratarn Waterfalls. After lunch we drive a short distance (15mins) to the start of our hiking trail. In the afternoon we walk for about 2hrs to a Karen village where we spend the night. (Hiking is in the National Park itself). (L,D) Day 2 Leave the Karen village and walk for approx. 3hrs to another Karen village where we have lunch. We walk for a further 2 hrs in the afternoon to the Karen village where we spend the night. Hiking on the second day is also in the National Park itself with lovely scenery, plant life and a climate considerably cooler than the lower lying areas. (B,L,D) Day 3 Walk for for 2 hours to the elephant camp passing a waterfall on the way where we stop for a rest. We take a 1 hour elephant ride and then break for lunch. In the afternoon our transport will take us to the rafting point, and we raft down the river on bamboo rafts for approx. 1hr. Drive back to Chiang Mai which takes approx. 1hr. Lisu Homestay Staying in a remote Lisu village; as well as elephant riding, rafting and hiking. This is a new program staying in an authentic unvisited Lisu village as guests of the family. Day 1 Drive north of Chiang Mai for approx 1hr and visit the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. We see the elephants there demonstrating their skills and taking a morning bath. Then we ride on the elephants for approx. 1 1/2hrs. After lunch we take a bamboo rafting trip for approx 1 hr. We are picked up after the rafting trip by our transport and drive north of Chiang Dao for about 1 hr. We are dropped off and then hike for approx. 45mins to the Lisu village. We are made welcome by our Lisu hosts and take a tour of the village. In the evening we make ourselves at home in the hosts' house where we will be spending the night. We have dinner in the house with our hosts and spend the night there. (L,D) Day 2 After breakfast in the village and saying goodbye to our hosts, we trek through the surrounding hills to a Karen village, where our transport will pick us up. The morning's hiking is approx 2 1/2hrs and fairly easy. The drive back is along a scenic route and we will stop at a small town on the way back for lunch. We arrive back in Chiang Mai approx 4pm. It has all the features of elephant riding, rafting & hiking. Enjoy the ambling of the elephants along the small trails and the thrill of a bamboo rafting trip along the Ping River. The hiking is a good one day route for those that are fit and used to walking. Itinerary : Pick up from your hotel at 8.00am. Drive north of Chiang Mai for approx 1 1/2 hrs into the countryside. Drive off the main road and disembark to start hiking. Hike through the hills approx. 2 1/2 hrs to the elephant camp. The hiking is moderate level but you should be fairly fit. We get to see a variety of local scenery and villages during the day, including Karen and Palong tribes. Ride elephants along a small path for approx 1 hr to join our transport. Drive a short distance to the rafting start point and raft down the river on bamboo rafts for approx 1-1 1/2 hrs. Drive approx 1hr back to Chiang Mai. (L) Hilltribe & River Adventure A trek for the whitewater enthusiasts, with a whitewater rafting trip on the second day. Also a decent amount of hiking with elephant riding too. Itinerary : Day 1 Drive north of Chiang Mai and first visit an orchid farm with a huge display of Thailand's best known flowers. Then drive further north towards Mae Taeng for approx 1½hrs to the start of our trek.
